Dear Parents,
I want to let you know a little about myself. I am a professional violist and I have also been playing the violin since I was 7 years old. I currently perform with the Columbus Symphony and the LaGrange Symphony. have also been a member with the Princeton Symphony and a founding member of the Madison String Quartet, both based in New Jersey. I love music, I love teaching strings and I love working with young people. So I am so glad to be working with your children in orchestra this year.
I have been performing as a professional violist for many years now and I have been teaching also for 30 years. This experience includes teaching children from the age of 4 years old to 18 years, coaching chamber ensembles (small groups) and conducting the Middle School String Orchestra of the Greater Princeton Youth Symphony. I have taught many beginning students of various ages as well as advanced students who have not only won auditions for All State Orchestra but who have gone on to college to continue their studies in music.
I consider it a privilege to be teaching at this school and working with your children. I will hold them to a high standard but will be here to support them every step of the way. I believe in the value of music education. Music is a vital part of who we are and is present in our daily lives in society through ritual, celebrations, parades, movie sound tracks and live concerts as well as in our homes. As the importance of music in our society is evident, so it is evident that music must be an important part of a child’s experience in school. Music has been proven time and again to help young people in creating direction and meaning in their lives and enhancing their school experience like no academic subject can. I believe that everyone who wants to should be able to participate in music in some way. Music brings beauty and meaning to our lives and I want to facilitate that in our children’s lives. As a parent and teacher in this community, I am invested in making our lives better in the best way I know how through music.
My goal in this and every school year will be to help your child grow as an artist musician.
Thank you for encouraging your child in learning music, please know that your support of your child’s efforts will be very important to his/her success.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Hostetter
